Causing a .Com-motion

Pop superstar Madonna has found yet another way to get herself into the papers. This time the controversial performer is suing the owner of the madonna.com website in an attempt to get the domain name for herself. Owner Dan Parisi had been operating madonna.com as a porn site, which angered Madonna. She wants to be able to put her own porn online.

Madonna has already bought madonnaxxx.com, madonnashocks.com, and madonnaisaslut.com, among others, but insists she is entitled to the coveted simpler domain name. "That should be mine," she explained, "Because I'M Madonna! Nobody can do Madonna porn like Madonna!"

The singer and her business advisers are worried that potential porn consumers will flock to the more conventional URL and ignore her own porn sites. She also claims artistic concerns and calls Parisi's site "a travesty" that offers inferior smut. "It's about the fans," she continued, "I don't want my fans to go somewhere thinking they will get my brand of x rated material, and be disappointed." She promised fans who visit her site are never disappointed.

Stars are increasingly taking so-called "cybersquatters," who have bought celebrity-oriented domain names, to court. Asked how she can claim rights to the madonna.com name when she herself was named after the Virgin Mother, Madonna said, "She was YEARS ago. You know, that was then, this is now."
